How to install custom content?
1. Before downloading an item, don't forget to check the following:
Compatability. Custom content may require a certain expansion pack to work properly. Make sure that you have the expansion pack needed. On the other hand, some creations (especially modifications and hacks) may work with a certain expansion pack / set of expansion packs only. You need to download a version for your game. This information is usually provided by the creator.
Mesh. Some creations require a mesh to work. Make sure that the mesh is included. If the mesh is not included, you will need to download it separately. The links are usually provided by the creator.
Included Items. If you are downloading a set of creations, a sim or a lot, some creations may not be included in the file due to the fact that there are creators do not allow to redistribute their creations. Make sure to read the creator's description, those files are usually linked.
Installation Process.
1. Download the content and unpack (for .rar and .zip files) if needed.
2. Back up your game and your files. This step is optional.
3. Extract or move the files into your Downloads folder. This folder can be found in My Documents (My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads). It is highly recommended to organise your Downloads folder by creating sub-folders. Modifications and default replacements are to be put into separate folders for easier navigation.
3. Launch your game.
